Chapter Eleven

Drusilla’s sleep that night was short and restless. She kept tossing and turning, imaging herself surrounded by three strong, hard bodies, going from one high to the next. When she woke up alone and sweaty, tangled up in sheets, she felt disappointed. The three men are having an effect on her — could this be the destinuar taking hold?

If only she got over her hangups… she was close last night, so close, but then the ship’s computer let them know they were getting close to Valkronis, and the demeanor of the three brothers changed completely.

She left them to their discussion, tired as she was by the day’s event. Now she’s regretting that. After a quick shower she heads towards the control room where the three brothers are holed up, looking at the many screens that control the vessel.

“Is that Valkronis?” Drusilla asks.

“It sure is,” Kolos answers. “We are close to docking.”

“And close to finally getting some answers,” Ragnar growls.

The planet is beautiful, bigger than any she’s ever seen before, a true jewel.

“I wonder what Father will have to say,” Aksel says.

“We’ll soon find out,” Kolos answers.

The shuttle down to the surface is eerily silent. It feels like everyone is on edge. Only Aksel musters a smile, the other two brothers faces are stone cold. Drusilla’s heart is racing. This is all she ever wanted — to travel to Valkronis. And yet, now that she’s only minutes away, doubt is all she can feel.

Will Vladimir Velo realize that she’s half-Djall? Will he even care?

“Look,” Kolos says. “Home. Hasn’t changed a bit.”

Drusilla looks out of the window, and for a moment, all her doubts are forgotten. The view is simply mesmerizing. Tall, snow-covered peaks and low valleys take her breath away. A castle looms in the distance, built on the side of the mountain, hewed from the very rock itself.

“Is that?” she asks.

Ragnar nods. “Castle Velo. Home.”

A sense of foreboding fills Drusilla. This is it.

The ship touches down, and when the doors open the four-strong couple find a large crowd is waiting on them. Every member of the royal staff has come out to greet them. The day passes quickly as Drusilla is shown around the impressive castle, all the many impressions making the time pass quickly.

After a few hours, Drusilla is tired of meeting new people, from putting on a smiling face. She wants nothing more than to be alone for a moment and to gather her strength — but she has no such luck today. Kolos introduces her to a group of Xhakan females, all of them taller than Dru, and she feels unreasonably jealous of their stately, beautiful, Xhakan features, even though the three brothers have pledged their love and loyalty to her.

“There is a banquet tonight,” Kolos says.

“Say no more,” a silver-haired Xhakan woman responds. Based on her outfit, Dru pegs her as the mother hen. “We’ll take care of it.”

Dru’s hands are grabbed and she’s led away, Kolos waving at her with a smirk on his face.
